В 1994 году, когда блэк-металическая история обогатилась сразу целым выводком классических альбомов норвежской школы, ветераны черной стилистики из Швейцарии уже совершили свой прорыв из узких рамок стиля. «Ceremony of Opposites» стал третьим номерным альбомом Samael и до сих пор остается их главным достижением в тяжелой музыке. Пусть для этого швейцарцам и пришлось совершить весьма решительный шаг. Samael, наряду с Monumentum, Master’s Hammer, Ophthalamia, стали первыми командами «второй волны», в порядке эксперимента опробовавшими на вкус смежные области. Попытка швейцарского коллектива была если не самой смелой, то наиболее экстремальной и влиятельной. Отголоски «Ceremony of Opposites» - ключевого альбома в дарк-металической стилистике – можно найти у Alastis и Christ Agony конца 90-х, Rotting Christ и Ajattara начала «нулевых».
