Джерри Ли Льюис родился в Ферридее (шт. Луизиана) 29 сентября 1935 года в бедной семье Элмо и Мами Льюисов. Играть на пианино Льюис начал в раннем возрасте вместе со своими двоюродными братьями — Микки Гилли (впоследствии — известный исполнитель кантри) и Джимми Сваггартом (в будущем ставшим популярным теле-проповедником). Именно в те годы Льюис получил прозвище «Убийца» (The Killer).
