Stephen Richard "Steve" Hackett - is an English musician, songwriter and singer. He gained prominence as lead guitarist of the British progressive rock group Genesis, which he joined in 1970 and left in 1977 to pursue a solo career. Hackett contributed to six Genesis studio albums, three live albums and seven singles.

Not to be confused with the well-intentioned but still incomplete career retrospective of the late '90s, this international release focused exclusively on the three albums (two studio and one live) issued during the period stated in its title. At the time, Genesis' three-man lineup was finally coming into their own as a viable commercial entity, having survived the seemingly insurmountable challenge of losing guitarist Steve Hackett and especially singer Peter Gabriel.
