Dark Light is the fifth studio album by Finnish gothic rock band HIM. Released on 26 September 2005, HIM began recording the album in March 2005 at the Paramour Estate is Los Angeles with producer Tim Palmer, who had also mixed the band's previous album Love Metal. Dark Light also served as HIM's first worldwide release with Sire Records, with whom the band had signed with in September 2004. In Finland, however, the album was released under the band's own label Heartagram. Musically, Dark Light featured a more "polished" and "accessible" sound than previous albums, and was written as a cross between Black Sabbath and U2, also influenced by the work of composer Angelo Badalamenti.

Третий альбом группы HIM резко отличается от того, что команда делала раньше. В альбоме отсутствуют привычные гитарные риффы, основное место занимает акустика. Видимо, из-за этого многие слушатели относят данное творение к разряду «попсовых», но это не так. Это просто спокойный, меланхоличный альбом, о чем свидетельствует все, начиная от обложки в черно-белых тонах, и кончая текстами песен.

Учитывая невиданную популярность Вилле Вало и его лав-металической компании, глупо было бы ожидать от H.I.M. резкой смены музыкального курса после выпуска нескольких мультиплатиновых альбомов. "Dark Light" можно смело назвать лучшим диском H.I.M. на сегодняшний день. Несмотря на то, что в музыкальном отношении альбом представляет собой все ту же смесь из гитарного навала и романтических клавишных пассажей, а любовь в текстах не устает " умирать навечно", нынешние H.I.M. стали звучать намного более зрело и фирменно. Отточенные до блеска риффы, теплый и мягкий звук, выруленный в одной из лучших студий… Даже рыдать Вилле Вало стал как-то более профессионально и не столь приторно, как раньше.

Venus Doom is the sixth studio album by Finnish gothic rock band HIM. The album was recorded at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki with producers Hiili Hiilesmaa and Tim Palmer, both whom had collaborated with the band on various occasions, and released on 14 September 2007. During the making of Venus Doom, HIM was struggling with the personal problems of their vocalist Ville Valo. Among other things, his alcohol abuse had worsened to the point that he suffered a nervous breakdown during the recording process, after which he was admitted to the Promises Rehabilitation Clinic in Malibu by HIM's manager Seppo Vesterinen. Musically the album has been described as HIM's heaviest and darkest album to date, with influences from bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema and Paradise Lost. Much of the album's lyrical themes and heaviness were inspired by Valo's personal difficulties, including his break-up with fiancé Jonna Nygrén.

"Wings of a Butterfly" (released as "Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly" on the album) is a song by the Finnish band HIM. It is the second track on the 2005 album Dark Light and was released as the album's first single that year. The song reached #1 on the Finnish charts, #10 in Germany and the UK, and #87 in the U.S., making it the biggest single from Dark Light. The music video, filmed at Union Station in Los Angeles, was #1 on the Rock Countdown on MTV2 in late 2005 for five weeks until it was retired. Since its live performance premiere the song become a concert staple being played at almost every HIM show since then.
