Kawir were amongst the band who defined the Greek Black Metal style in the early nineties, but different from most other greek bands, they also use traditional instruments (one of their songs, Hymn to Zeus even comes without any "metal instrument" at all) and use lyrics in ancient greek.

А в 2008 на Those Opposed Records выходит новый альбом Kawir под названием "Ophiolatreia". Erichthonios из группы ушёл, поэтому на этом диске вокальные партии исполнил Porphyrion, а на клавишных играл Etheras.

Ещё через два года группа издаёт мини-альбом "To Uranus", на котором "погостили" такие личности, как Sakis Tolis и Hildr Valkyrie. В том же году издаётся DVD "Athenian Echoes Over Paris", куда вошла запись выступления коллектива на фестивале Cernunnos в декабре 2008 года, видеоклип и биография.

In many ways, Father Sun Mother Moon is a record that could've hailed from the early days of KAWIR's pagan transition. A mysticism from ancient times blankets these hymns to the Hellenic Pantheon, made all the more stirring by being delivered in actual Ancient Greek Language. The incorporation of ethic instruments and atmospheres lends Father Sun Mother Moon not only an authenticity that is extremely difficult to replicate, but a very literally otherworldly aura that brims with the triumph and tragedy, enlightenment and bloodlust, of Greece's ancient mythological canon.

В 2006 на Kyrck Productions & Armour выходит компиляции под названием Dei Kabeiroi, включающая в себя первый полноформатный альбом коллектива, «To Cavirs», и отремастерированные треки с мини-альбома «Eumenides» 1994 года.

Kawir ist eine griechische Band aus Athen und Attika und gehört zu den älteren Bands der griechischen Black-Metal-Szene sowie zu den ältesten im Pagan Metal. Vaso Prasa von metalzone.gr bezeichnet sie als „historisch“. Kawir wurde 1993 von Bandleader Thertonax alias Mentor gegründet, nachdem er bei Zemial ausgestiegen war; vorher hatte er auch bei Nocturnal Death gespielt. 1993 veröffentlichte die Band die Kassette Promo ’93 mit dem Lied Sinn (The Blazing Queen).
