Pianist, composer and producer David Benoit started his career as musical director for singer Lainie Kazan in 1976. Over the years, he has worked with a lot of vocalists, like Patti Austin, Kenny Loggins, Kenny Rankin, Brian McKnight, or Connie Stevens. So when the time came to make a new album, he suggested to do a vocal album with all new material. The lyrics to his new songs were written by three vocalists who also have recorded several great albums over the years: Lorraine Feather, Mark Winkler, and Spencer Day. And the vocalist for the eight tracks (two are instrumemtals) are by Jane Monheit. The Latin-inflected “Barcelona Nights” (words by Lorraine Feather) starts the album elegantly and with subdued percussion. The other Feather track, “Too In Love”, is where Jane really shines, switching keys easily and letting it loose in the bridge. David also has a solid solo spot on this one.

"Cry No More" takes Danielle Nicole into fresh new creative territory, delivering 14 emotion-charged new songs whose rootsy musical edge is matched by their air of hard-won personal experience. With seasoned veteran Tony Braunagel (Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Burdon) producing, such heartfelt, groove-intensive new tunes as “Crawl,” “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore,” the Bill Withers-penned “Hot Spell” and the heart-tugging title track, find Danielle cutting loose and focusing on the storytelling and character-development aspects of her songwriting. Luther Dickinson, Sonny Landreth, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Walter Trout guest on guitar.

This budget-line collection from the K-Tel label isn't tops in fidelity, song quality, or historical information (for example, where these performances were recorded and with whom). However, it does feature top-notch talents like Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan.

Michael Landau, renowned for his instrumental work, has taken somewhat of a left turn with his latest release Rock Bottom. Michael has found his voice on this, his latest offering through Provogue. It’s a quirky piece of work meshing his musical influences and fine guitar work, a trippy ride at times, reminiscent of Hendrix or Robin Trower in feel, but with Landau’s signature style. As expected, the guitar work is first class and to be admired. For those hoping for a typical instrumental piece of work, the inclusion of vocals may challenge some, a bit like Satriani hitting the notes on ‘Flying in a Blue Dream’ back in the day, but time is a healer. I jest of course, Landau can carry a note no problem, and his vocals blend seamlessly with the finely penned songs on Rock Bottom. A classy album from start to finish, Rock Bottom will sit beautifully alongside Landau’s body of work to date.

The mellow album from 2008 with some fine chilled Bossa and tracks like Cancun or Soulsalicious is sold out at the moment…The idea was to refresh it a bit (new mastered/new mixed) and add some mixes like the radio edit of “Love on a Rainy Day”, the Bossa for a Coup remix and the brandnew version of “Taxi to Bombay” with the Bollywood flute player Dinesh Mishra.

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra is a contemporary band from England that specialises in the jazz and swing genres of music of the 1920s and 1930s, although their full repertoire is considerably wider. The orchestra has existed since 1969, although the line-up has frequently changed. It has achieved success outside of the United Kingdom, most notably in Germany.
