Danny Green reaches new creative heights on this, his fourth recording as a leader (second for OA2 Records). Recorded over several days at New York's famed Sear Sound with master producer Matt Pierson, Danny brings together his five year-old trio, along with a string quartet, to interpret eleven new highly personal compositions, each shaped by elements of his life's narrative - feelings of warmth or nostalgia, the experience of a harried moment, or simply the convergence of a time and a place.

“Traverse This Universe”, finds Ms. Sophie Lee reaching beyond her traditional jazz roots with original material written alongside her ukulele and with the help of producer/songwriters Luke Winslow-King, Earl J. Scioneaux, III and Ben Polcer. “Traverse This Universe” features six original compositions and five standards performed by Ms. Sophie Lee’s mainstay Spotted Cat band and showcasing over a dozen talented New Orleans musicians, including Aurora Nealand, Helen Gillet, Charlie Halloran, Khris Royal amongst others. As lagniappe, the album artwork highlights the creative talents of her eight and six year old daughters. Sophie Lee, transplanted native of the ’90s or not, could be turning into the Leah Chase of trad jazz; not only does she operate Three Muses while holding down a steady gig at the Spotted Cat, she’s preparing to relaunch Seoul Shack in mid-summer at an Uptown location.

The masterful talents of Jimi Tenor and his Saxophone playing are on full show here. A collection of afro-jazz tracks that reek of sunshine, its music to ease your disease and brighten up the darkest of days. They’re collaborative works with musicians Tenor has both worked with in the past and here for the first time. As is his usual practice, Tenor plays multiple instruments on the record, though it is his Sax playing which takes the spotlight on this record.

Guitar virtuoso U-Nam is not stingy with bright colors and catchy music. A herald of smooth jazz, he has led in the youngest past the music of George Benson to new heights. With "Surface Level" he returns to his roots, the music of the 80's. Groove Ltd, aka U-Nam and Shannon Kennedy have just released their stunning debut collection, the appropriately titled ‘First Class’. Building on the duo’s previous collaborations, and from the first note of the opening groove drenched title cut, it is a CD that blows the doors off with U-Nam’s edgy guitar, Kennedy’s powerhouse sax and ten fantastic tracks which combine to lay down a calling card for what Groove Ltd is all about.

Over the past two decades Ed Palermo has earned an avid international following with his brilliantly executed, reverently irreverent arrangements of Frank Zappa’s tempestuous and wildly inventive music. On previous albums the New Jersey saxophonist, composer and arranger infused the world of Zappalogy with his own brand of incisive wit and bracing improvisation. He doesn’t neglect Zappa on his fourth Cuneiform dispatch One Child Left Behind but instead of offering another full Frank immersion he turns his big band loose like it’s playing one of its regular gigs. Exploring an expansive array of moods and material, the band delivers an audaciously entertaining program that’s full of surprises.

Clarinetist Anat Cohen joins with Trio Brasileiro members Dudu Maia on bandolim, Douglas Lora on seven-string guitar and Alexandre Lora on pandeiro and percussion for a spirited album of Brazilian tinged jazz.

The Big Hustle is a parisian band who has funk and electric jazz from the last decade as his main influences (Snarky puppy, Soulive, Lettuce). With a powerful and tight horn section, a rock and funky rhythm section with percussions added to it, the Big Hustle’s music has a very large variety of sound landscapes, from quiet and groovy moods to moments of furious soundblasts. Still, the music never loses the groove and always stays close to the funk. The fist LP entitled Worlwide is available in march 2016. The album features the instrumental music of the band and few songs performed by guests (Nina Attal, Melissa McMillan, Beat Assailant).
