French jazz singer Camille Bertault was not well known when she posted some videos of her scat singing. Those got a lot of people interested, including people from record companies. Hence En Vie, a superb debut album by a very talented singer.

Over the past two decades Ed Palermo has earned an avid international following with his brilliantly executed, reverently irreverent arrangements of Frank Zappa’s tempestuous and wildly inventive music. On previous albums the New Jersey saxophonist, composer and arranger infused the world of Zappalogy with his own brand of incisive wit and bracing improvisation. He doesn’t neglect Zappa on his fourth Cuneiform dispatch One Child Left Behind but instead of offering another full Frank immersion he turns his big band loose like it’s playing one of its regular gigs. Exploring an expansive array of moods and material, the band delivers an audaciously entertaining program that’s full of surprises.

Clarinetist Anat Cohen joins with Trio Brasileiro members Dudu Maia on bandolim, Douglas Lora on seven-string guitar and Alexandre Lora on pandeiro and percussion for a spirited album of Brazilian tinged jazz.

The Big Hustle is a parisian band who has funk and electric jazz from the last decade as his main influences (Snarky puppy, Soulive, Lettuce). With a powerful and tight horn section, a rock and funky rhythm section with percussions added to it, the Big Hustle’s music has a very large variety of sound landscapes, from quiet and groovy moods to moments of furious soundblasts. Still, the music never loses the groove and always stays close to the funk. The fist LP entitled Worlwide is available in march 2016. The album features the instrumental music of the band and few songs performed by guests (Nina Attal, Melissa McMillan, Beat Assailant).

"EYE" is set to contain 12 songs. Nakatsuka worked on the lyrics, compositions, arrangements, and more on his own. Guest musicians include Matsuoka "Matzz" Takahiro (Per/tres-men, quasimode), NAOTO (strings), Honda Masato (sax), Sasaki Shiro (trumpet), Eric Miyashiro (trumpet), Luis Valle (trumpet), Nakagawa Eijiro (trombone), and Igarashi Makoto (trombone). The album's mixing and mastering were handled by Sakaeda Masateru and Maeda Yasuji respectively.

This terrific recording from young French saxophone star Emile Parisien special. There’s an easy creativity in the compositions that brings a constant variety to the set, and a total commitment to each of the styles the group work through. It’s a new group, too, audibly enjoying discovering what they can do. Parisien, a multi-award winner in France, has departed from his decade-old quartet, and recruited three new cohorts – Manu Codjia on guitar, Simon Tailleu on bass, and Mario Costa on drums. Joachim Kühn, who lived for many years in Paris, makes it a quintet, and brings half a century’s experience of every kind of piano playing into the mix.
