Scott Robinson has been affected a bit by the Roland Kirk syndrome. His interest in and ability to play just about every saxophone ever invented—and some that haven't—has obscured his talent to listeners more comfortable with musicians that can be identified by a single instrument, in spite of being very active recently both as a leader and member of Joe Lovano's Nonet. Pianist Emil Viklicky is the best known jazz musician working in the Czech Republic today but virtually unknown outside Central Europe, despite having developed a delightfully original style by combining elements of modern jazz with the melodies of Moravian folk songs and having been commissioned to compose a piece for "Let Freedom Swing," part of the festival that marked the opening of the new building that houses Jazz at Lincoln Center. Fortunately Summertime , recorded for Radio Prague, is available to shed light on these two unjustly under-recognized artists.

Sharply Detached is Stevie T and Michael Arthur formed in 2010, Stevie and Michael have been writing and preforming together since 2005. As musicians they have performed and recorded with some of the best. As a record production team they worked on dozens of projects, winning BC Interior Music Awards Engineer of the Year in 2008 and were also nominated for Producers of the year.

"Smile" is another fine set of mellow and acoustic guitar led Smooth Jazz grooves from Peter White. The opener ‘Smile’ enjoys a nice vocal from Mindi Abair. ‘In Rainbows’ is a typical White composition and his guitar work is particularly lyrical. Instrumentals like ‘Floatin In Air’, ‘Head Over Heels’ and ‘Awakening’ show Peter’s deft touch. ‘Smile’ is a delightful album that will please Peter White fans.

Emil Viklicky of the Czech Republic (1948) was introduced to Japanese jazz fans by Venus Records with his debut CD Sinfonietta which featured classical composer Leos Janacek's music and his own compositions based on or inspired by Moravian songs. Viklicky's second release from Venus is also a unique concept album. It's a tribute to the internationally renowned Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami, whose recent work featured Janacek's Sinfonietta as an important device. Viklicky met Murakami in 2010 and was surprised how well the writer was versed with the music of Janacek. A while later, he decided to dedicate his second album for Venus to Murakami, who is also known as a jazz afficionado.
