Bob Corritore is one of the most prolific recording artists on the scene today, continuing to receive world-wide recognition. The versatile harp player grew up in Chicagoland and cut his blues teeth by frequenting clubs on the South and West Sides where he learned his craft from the greats. He has since relocated to Phoenix, AZ where he is a club owner (The Rhythm Room), radio DJ, award-winning record producer and more. He often tours the world, accompanying other blues artists, to play prestigious festivals and clubs. Taboo presents a variety of Chicago Blues styles, including the show-stealer title track. “Taboo” was not written as a12 bar blues standard, and instead has a haunting Latino-Brazilian feel. Corritore also takes you from catchy struts and ‘50s grooves, to big band swings, and low-down Chicago Blues.

Time and the River is David Sanborn's 25th studio date, marking his 40th anniversary as a leader. Though released by Sony Okeh imprint, he funded it with a Pledgemusic drive. Befitting of such an occasion, he reunites with bassist and producer Marcus Miller. Though they haven't worked as a team on a record in over 15 years, they've netted five previous Grammys and seven Gold Records.

Alexander Hawkins is a familiar performer around London, regularly playing at venues like the Vortex and Cafe Oto, in bands with such luminaries as Louis Moholo-Moholo and Evan Parker, but this is the first recording of his regular trio. It is contemporary and exploratory whilst paying respect and gratitude those who came before. There are hints of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, even a nod to John Taylor, as well as many pianists who are further "out there".

To Brazil With Love, with anticipation, and her first bossa nova album does not disappoint. This Brazilian-born music style fits her like a glove, and her renderings of these classic bossa songs and bossa treatments of other songs are straight forward and without overt surprises and gimmicks, and, as always, intimate and charming. An interesting twist is that she uses three languages--Portuguese, English and French--which gives this album an international flavor. The CD also features superb accompaniment once again from Reg Schwager and Don Thompson, as well as Brazillian guests Maninho Costa and Silas Silva. They make use of many different forms of music in their approach to jazz, if merely to use their colors, dynamics, and intonations to create something other. This a piano trio album that has plenty and gracefully relies on subtlety to express it.
