Acclaimed British composer Max Richter is about to make history, with a ground-breaking piece of work – the longest single piece of music ever recorded! His new album SLEEP is an eight-hour Lullaby. An exploration of music, consciousness and human connectivity – and is actually intended to send the listener to sleep.

Hollow Meadows may be Richard Hawley’s most personal album yet; which is entirely appropriate, given his etymological note linking the locale’s old name Auley Meadows with his own patronymic, the Hawley family having lived there between the 14th and 17th centuries. Another staging-point on his titular tour of Sheffield, the name refers to a building on the city’s border with the Peak District that served as a hiding-place for the afflicted, be they shell-shocked soldiers from the Great War, defective offspring of the aristocracy, or, as recently as the Sixties, a hospice for psychiatric patients: blighted lives over which a discreet veil, according to the attitude of earlier times, might hopefully be drawn.

Polish prog act Riverside have been around since 2003 and have released six records and several EPs. Atmospheric, dynamic and melancholic are perfect words in describing their newest release Love, Fear and the Time Machine . It's quite similar to their first album, only with a more mature sound, stronger techninal complexity and a wider range of studio techniques and instruments.

While Jaga Jazzist's sonic explorations can certainly be termed as jazz, they're about as far away from Miles Davis be-bop as it's possible to be, and to label them as merely 'jazz' would be to do them a disservice. There are elements of post-rock, electronica and prog peppering the five tracks that make up 'Starfire', and they all contribute to an album which provides you with something exciting and new each and every listen. 'Starfire' is unmistakeably Jaga Jazzist – many of the riffs still sound like the theme tune to a 1980s Eastern European quiz show – but there are definitely signs of growth. Burbling electronic basslines give a bit of meat to some of the arrangements, which is unexpected and welcome. However, the biggest revelation is the epic 'Oban', where sweeping strings and breathy saxophone give a previously unseen human quality to this most studious of bands.

Jessi Teich is a one woman Mardi Gras! She’s a vibrant, victorious celebration and her soon-to-be-released album, Twisted Soul, will take you to the exotic locales of her own blossoming soul. Jessi calls Twisted Soul "a crossover record with a jazz spinal cord," with a sequenced "operatic" story arc of cathartic metamorphosis - overcoming tragedy through change and growth.

Scott Robinson has been affected a bit by the Roland Kirk syndrome. His interest in and ability to play just about every saxophone ever invented—and some that haven't—has obscured his talent to listeners more comfortable with musicians that can be identified by a single instrument, in spite of being very active recently both as a leader and member of Joe Lovano's Nonet. Pianist Emil Viklicky is the best known jazz musician working in the Czech Republic today but virtually unknown outside Central Europe, despite having developed a delightfully original style by combining elements of modern jazz with the melodies of Moravian folk songs and having been commissioned to compose a piece for "Let Freedom Swing," part of the festival that marked the opening of the new building that houses Jazz at Lincoln Center. Fortunately Summertime , recorded for Radio Prague, is available to shed light on these two unjustly under-recognized artists.
