März 1986 von Elektra Records veröffentlicht und gilt als Meilenstein des Thrash Metals. Master of Puppets war das letzte Album, das Metallica mit Cliff Burton am Bass aufnahm. It was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, after John was forced to pause his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour due to lockdown. A 2022 reissue of the album includes "Merry Christmas" with Ed Sheeran and "Hold Me Closer" with Britney Spears.
