It’s not intended to push boundaries or re‑invent Céline’s sound, but rather to commemorate and present her earlier French work to a perhaps broader or newer audience (especially outside Francophone countries). The vocal performances are solid, and the songs hold up well.

Ramazzotti had won the 'New Voices' category in the 1984 Sanremo Music Festival with the song "Terra promessa", which went on to peak at number 2 on the Italian Singles Chart and is included here. At the 1985 Sanremo Festival, Ramazzotti entered the main competition with "Una storia importante", which placed sixth but subsequently topped the Italian chart and also reached number 2 in France. Cuori agitati made number 10 on the Italian Albums chart.

The album, featuring three tracks produced by Trevor Horn and two by Rick Nowels, was recorded in a variety of locations in London, California and Italy. Stilelibero was a commercial success, topping the Italian albums chart, as did the lead single, "Fuoco nel fuoco" also topping the singles chart. "Più che puoi", a duet with Cher, also reached the Italian top 20.
