You couldn't turn on the radio between the 60's thru the 90's without somewhere having that vile group "Chicago" rammed down your throat. Blood Sweat and Tears did the "jazz/horn" thing first, and did it infinitely better. But better than either of those was Lighthouse - and they even had a built in string section. "Thoughts Of Moving On" is one of my happiest musical memories of the early seventies.
