Cyrus left RCA Records shortly after the release of her seventh studio album Plastic Hearts (2020), and began work on her follow-up studio effort after signing with Columbia in early 2021. While working on the record, she released the live album Attention: Miley Live (2022).
The lead single "Flowers" was released on January 12, 2023. It set several streaming records and spent six consecutive weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Cyrus's second chart-topping song in the country. It further topped the charts in 36 other countries. The second single, "River" was released on March 13, 2023.

Back to Black is the second and final studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 27 October 2006 by Island Records. Winehouse predominantly based the album on her tumultuous relationship with then-ex-boyfriend and future husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who temporarily left her to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend. Their short-lived separation spurred her to create an album that explores themes of guilt, grief, infidelity and heartbreak in a relationship.

Chromatica is the sixth studio album by American singer Lady Gaga. It was released on May 29, 2020, by Streamline and Interscope Records. Originally scheduled for April 10, 2020, the album's release was delayed for several weeks, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chromatica incorporates elements of dance-pop, EDM and other pop-focused genres. Gaga and BloodPop served as the album's executive producers. Lyrically, themes of the album include mental health, healing, finding love through hardship, PTSD due to sexual assault, and self-empowerment, in contrast with the music, which has a more positive vibe. It features guest vocals from Ariana Grande, Blackpink and Elton John.

Songs of Surrender is an album of re-recorded songs by Irish rock band U2. Produced by guitarist the Edge, it was released on 17 March 2023 on Island Records and Interscope Records. Largely the effort of the Edge and lead vocalist Bono, the album comprises re-recorded and reinterpreted versions of 40 songs from the group's back catalogue, many in stripped-down and acoustic arrangements. The album is a companion to Bono's memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story (2022), which was structured into 40 chapters titled after U2 songs. Rearranged versions of the songs were first included in the audiobook edition of the memoir, and were performed by Bono during the book's promotional tour.

Gigaton is the eleventh studio album by the American rock band Pearl Jam, released on March 27, 2020. It was preceded by the singles "Dance of the Clairvoyants", "Superblood Wolfmoon" and "Quick Escape". It is the band's first studio album in seven years. The album's track listing was confirmed by the band on January 20, 2020. The cover artwork was produced by photographer Paul Nicklen. Its release was scheduled to coincide with a tour of North America. However, the North American leg was postponed due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, with the aim to reschedule them for a later date.

No More Tears is the sixth solo studio album by English heavy metal vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. War is the third studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was produced by Steve Lillywhite, and was released on 28 February 1983 on Island Records. The album is regarded as U2's first overtly political album, in part because of songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day", as well as the title, which stems from the band's perception of the world at the time; lead vocalist Bono stated that "war seemed to be the motif for 1982."
