Heaven and Hell ist das neunte Album der britischen Heavy-Metal-Band Black Sabbath. Das Album wurde am 25. April 1980 via Vertigo Records veröffentlicht. Heaven and Hell ist das erste Album nach der Trennung von Ozzy Osbourne. Sein Nachfolger wurde der ehemalige Rainbow-Sänger Ronnie James Dio. Tony Iommi beschreibt den Vorgang in einem mit dem Online-Magazin Consequence Of Sound geführten Interview folgendermaßen: „Als wir in Los Angeles waren, mieteten wir zunächst mit Ozzy ein Haus. Als dann alles schief ging, zog Ozzy aus und wir hatten die Ausrüstung in einem der Aufenthaltsräume des Hauses aufgebaut. Wir hatten kleine Bandmaschinen, kleine Verstärker und ein kleines Schlagzeug - damit es nicht zu laut war, wegen der Nachbarn.“

Auf diesem Album fing Gitarrist Tony Iommi an, seine Gitarre um insgesamt drei Halbtöne tiefer zu stimmen. Dies tat er, um sich das Spielen zu vereinfachen, da er kurz vor den Aufnahmen zum Debütalbum zwei Fingerkuppen durch einen Arbeitsunfall verloren hatte.
Im Januar 1971 begannen die Arbeiten an Master of Reality in den Island Studios in London. Drei Lieder wurden aufgenommen, dann gingen Black Sabbath auf Tour. Im Februar wurden weitere Stücke aufgenommen, wieder unterbrochen durch eine Tournee. Im April wurden die Lieder dann fertiggestellt. Zwischen Aufnahmeschluss und Veröffentlichung erreichten das Debütalbum und Paranoid Gold in den USA.

The album was released after the 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite featured the Jamiroquai song "Canned Heat" in its climactic dance scene. "Feels Just Like It Should" was the first single, reaching No. 8 in its first week on the UK charts. It has since become a No.1 hit on the Billboard dance charts in the United States. The single was also certified Gold in Japan for selling 100,000 copies. The second single, "Seven Days in Sunny June", was released in the UK in August 2005, peaking at No. 14 on the UK singles chart. The song also featured in the film The Devil Wears Prada. On 7 November 2005, "(Don't) Give Hate A Chance" was released as the third single from the album.
