The Platinum Collection is one of Sandra's most comprehensive compilations to date, including all of her single songs released between 1985 and 2009 as well as some album tracks, remastered and arranged chronologically. Many of the songs are presented in shorter single edits. Two versions of the album were released: a 2-CD version and a 3-CD set, the latter including a selection of extended mixes originally available on 12" maxi singles. CD 3 also enables buyers to download 5 additional extended mixes in MP3 format and 5 high-quality photos and biography in English and German in PDF format (with the same content as the booklet in physical releases). A total of 23 exclusive tracks are included in this release: 12 previously unreleased on CD, 10 that were previously available on CD single only (or other formats such 12" single at the time of its original release; now out-of-print), and 1 that was previously available for promotional use only.

Sandra Ann Lauer - later Sandra Cretu, commonly known mononymously as Sandra, is a German pop singer who enjoyed mainstream popularity in the 1980s and early 1990s with a string of European hit singles, produced by her then-husband and musical partner, Michael Cretu, most notably "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" (1985), "In the Heat of the Night" (1985), "Everlasting Love" (1987), "Secret Land" (1988), "Hiroshima" (1990), and "Don't Be Aggressive" (1992). Her albums Into a Secret Land (1988) and Close to Seven (1992) have won Sandra high critical acclaim.

"Forever" is a 2001 pop song by German singer Sandra. It is a love ballad written by Peter Ries and Wolfgang Filz, and produced by Michael Cretu and Jens Gad. The song was released in October 2001 as the lead single from Sandra's seventh studio album The Wheel of Time and was a minor success on the official German chart. Music website AllMusic rated the song 3.5 out of 5 stars.

"The Night Is Still Young" is a 2009 song performed by German singer Sandra featuring Thomas Anders. The song was written by Toby Gad and Audrey Martells, and produced by Jens Gad. It was released in May 2009 as the second single from Sandra's ninth studio album Back to Life and was moderately successful on the German singles chart. The CD single also includes Sandra's solo version of the song as well as the English-French track "Redis moi" available only on the digital edition of Back to Life. The music video for "The Night Is Still Young" was filmed in Ibiza by Susanne Sigi.

"Everlasting Love" is a song written by Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden, originally a 1967 hit for Robert Knight and since covered numerous times. The most successful version in the UK was performed by Love Affair and the highest-charting version in the US was performed by Carl Carlton. Other cover versions were performed by Town Criers, Rex Smith & Rachel Sweet, Sandra Cretu, U2 and Gloria Estefan.

"Don't Be Aggressive" is a 1992 pop song by German singer Sandra. It was written by Michael Cretu and Klaus Hirschburger, and produced by Cretu. The song uses a sample of the 1990 track "Daydreaming" by Massive Attack, which in turn samples "Mambo" (1984) by Wally Badarou. It was released in January 1992 as the lead single from Sandra's fifth studio album Close to Seven, reaching the top 10 in Norway and Finland, and the top 20 in Germany.

The album was produced by a German DJ duo Blank & Jones, and incorporated 1980s style into songs, reproducing the sound pattern of Sandra's early albums, with the track "Kings & Queens" even sampling her 1985 hit "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena". It was also the first album since 1988's Into a Secret Land to feature Hubert Kemmler as a songwriter and background vocalist.
