"Under Southern Skies" is the brand new, 8th studio album by British melodic rock/AOR band "Newman". Active since the late `90s, led by singer/songwriter Steve Newman, the outfit saw "The art of balance" -their previous album- become their biggest selling studio effort to date. In contrast to the up-tempo hard rocking approach of "The Art of balance", the new album takes "Newman" back to the roots with standard/mid tempo songs for the biggest part.

Another of the hard working regulars of this scene is one Steve Newman. And he’s consistently delivered quality music year after year and is at it once again on The Elegance Machine. Picking up where they left off with Siren, this album holds the same musical outlook that The Art Of Balance and Under Southern Skies both did.

You could say “The Art Of Balance” is the first album by the full Newman band, although other than Drums (provided by Rob McEwen) Steve performed everything you hear on the album but I think having a full band around him has been good for Steve and it shows on this album. Completing the Newman line-up is Neil Richardson (Guitars), Terry Horne (Bass), Paul Boyle (Keyboards) & Nic Liposome (Drums). Chrome Dome Music is Steve’s own independent label and the album was recorded at Steve’s own studio “The Blue Room” where he also produced and engineered the album.

Already recorded between May and September of last year and produced by Steve Newman and the great Pete Coleman, here’s Newman’s best album to this date, called “Sign Of The Modern Times”. We had to wait three years for it, but it was surely worth the long wait.

The ever reliable and always consistent Steve Newman returns with a brand new album, once again taking full control of proceedings by writing, recording and performing most of the music contained within this release. The debut by Newman was released in Europe through Point Music as a solo project and was warmly received by critics and fans alike, but the second album "One Step Closer" saw a huge leap forward and establish them as a great melodic rock band. Another year has passed and Steve Newman has been hard at work writing songs for a third album. It's always very hard to surpass an album like "One Step Closer", but not impossible as this album clearly demonstrates.

Recorded at Firefest Festival, “Another Step Closer” captures Steve Newman and his band of merry men on ‘one of those nights’ when the planets align, there is a full moon, a full house, and a band kicking 1000 plus asses amassed in the ‘Rock City’ Nottingham, UK.
