Blige, but I am not looking up dates of birth). This album starts with Billie Holiday and ends with Aretha Franklin, it has Lena, Horne, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald, you get Tina Turner and Diana Ross, there is Annie Lennox and Toni Braxton, and you have Patti LaBelle and Whitney Houston and that still leaves four more.

Really, the title says it all. The classic Bop era is alive and well in the form of Bop, the new CD by veteran musicians Jeff Lorber and Chuck Loeb. The disc was put together to help find a cure for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) which inflicts Lorber and members of his family. Bop is a fantastic jazz album from a group of exceptional players who have risen to the occasion to help out a friend.

Jazzman Records' digging and vibing continues by way of their sixth volume chronicling the expansive world of spiritual jazz. The 14 tracks collected here date from 1960 to 1986 and include a few obvious but undeniably great landmark examples of vocal and spiritual jazz, as well as many lesser-known yet no less enjoyable selections. Beginning with Max Roach and then-wife Abbey Lincoln's rage-filled "Tears for Johannesburg," we then move through years and temperament with pieces from Pharoah Sanders, Charles Mingus, Clifford Jordan, Eddie Gale, and Gary Bartz. There are lots of ensembles and larger groups who bring the collective energy and impulses of the music and lyrics to full force.

One of the most recognized and highly respected guitarists around, Lee Ritenour, has contributed so much in his 40 years of makingLee Ritenour CD the sweet, funky, sophisticated, straight-ahead, and contemporary jazz music. His accomplishments are abundant as one who celebrated five decades as a guitarist back in 2010 and now, with this latest release, commemorates 40 years since his debut recording First Course on Epic Records. He has picked up or been nominated for award after award, been a member of the prestigious jazz group Fourplay, and spearheaded the ongoing Six String Theory Competition which shines the spotlight on aspiring musicians.

Hailing out of Germany, you definitely get the impression that a lot of their countrymen, such as UDO and ACCEPT, have had a rather large influence on this band; also tinges of HELLOWEEN can be heard. It’s a great mix and a lot of awesome history with those bands and the whole German Metal scene.
