Toundra, a four piece post-rock outfit from Madrid, are gearing up for the release of their fourth album, numerically and pleasingly titled IV. The album is available exclusively to stream below via The Independent. IV tells the story of two foxes that need to escape from the forest where they live as a huge fire ravages their home. This story serves as a metaphor for humanity destroying the environment and ties in with the artwork and videos, evoking a strong sense of the concept despite the music being entirely instrumental.

Over the past 20 years, tribute albums have become so common that it’s nearly impossible to find a new way to honor an act. However, the ‘The Many Faces of Black Sabbath,’ which will be released in the U.K. on Nov. 3, takes a unique approach. As Brave Words notes, the set spreads out 42 songs over three CDs, with each disc having a separate theme. The first, ‘The Players (and More),’ features mostly projects that have involved past and present members of Black Sabbath. This includes Dave Mustaine‘s cover of Alice Cooper‘s ‘School’s Out,’ which had Eric Singer and Bob Daisley. The disc is filled out with a few version of Sabbath songs, such as Vince Neil‘s take on ‘Paranoid.’

If you were a fan of the bands EP … you can stop reading now. Get the album. It both builds and improves on the EP. If you were not a fan, then consider revisiting the album as the weaker songs on the EP (Unify) are the poorer ones on an album which, generally, is packed with AOR done with both aplomb and near perfection. Finally, if you’ve never heard of them (as I presume a lot of you wont) then this is a band who stylistically share musical DNA with those bands pushing contemporary AOR into the spotlight like WET, Work of Art or early-HEAT (yup.. All Swedish!) all of whom, themselves, are hugely influenced by the kings of the genre like Toto, Journey and Winger.

"Blinded by the Light", which reached number one in Billboard's Hot 100, is a cover version of a song by Bruce Springsteen; "Questions" is based on the main theme of Franz Schubert's Impromptu in G flat Major; "Starbird" takes its theme from Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird.
