Last month Universal Music’s enormous Moody Blues Timeless Flight 17-disc super deluxe box set was released, and like a few recent box sets (Wings Over America, Smashing Pumpkin’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) it retails at well over £100 (nearer to £200 on amazon UK at the time of writing).
Unlike those sets, Timeless Flight celebrates an entire career, and Mark Powell (who researched, compiled and produced this set) has done an incredible job in terms of the audio within (14 discs of it, including three DVDs with six albums in 5.1 surround sound), the video content (a further three DVDs) and the supporting content of which the 124-page hardback book is the outstanding element.
The book is one of the very best we’ve seen in a super deluxe music set, with a seemingly endless amount of archive photography, sitting alongside words which tell the story of the band.

The Slade Box (A 4CD Anthology 1969-1991) is a four disc box set by the British rock band Slade. It was released in October 2006 by Salvo.[1]
The Slade Box contains eighty-four tracks ranging across the band's career from 1969 to 1991. A 72-page booklet was included with liner notes by Keith Altham. The Complete Studio Albums (1983–2008) is a box set by American singer-songwriter Madonna. It was released by Warner Bros. Records on March 26, 2012, to coincide with the release of her twelfth studio album, MDNA. The eleven-disc box set was released in Europe and Japan, and included all of Madonna's studio albums from the years 1983 to 2008. The album artwork consisted of a collage of the album covers, housed in a gold box, it also included a Parental Advisory sticker due to the original version of the albums Erotica (1992) and American Life (2003). This Woman's Work: Anthology 1978–1990 is a compilation box set by the British singer Kate Bush. Released in 1990 on CD, vinyl and cassette; it comprises her six studio albums to that point together with two additional albums of B-sides, rarities and remixes. The box set was re-released, on CD only, in 1998 in different packaging. It was not released in the US mainly due to The Sensual World being released there by Columbia Records.
The two rarities discs are entitled This Woman's Work: Volume One and This Woman's Work: Volume Two (in the vinyl edition the twenty-nine tracks are spread over three LP's), and have never been released as albums separately from the box set.

Following a series of box sets collecting its 12-inch singles, pioneering English electronic band - and 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees - Depeche Mode have announced a definitive survey of their studio works. The limited, numbered MODE is due on January 24 from Rhino/Warner (in the U.S.) and Sony (in the U.K.). The 18-CD collection rounds up all fourteen of Depeche Mode's studio albums plus four additional discs of bonus material. In total, MODE features 63 non-album singles, B-sides, and bonus tracks spanning 1983-2017 including the previously unreleased "Heroes (Highline Session Version)."

2008 sees the release (on Hybrid SACD and conventional CD) of the complete MSFL remasters of the complete Dead Can Dance catalogue of eight albums and one EP. This box set (a limited edition of 1500) gathers together those individual releases on SACD and pride of ownership is high. To be specific, each disc comes in: a protective, fine plastic sleeve inside a printed paper inner sleeve; inside a stiff card replica of the original LP sleeve; inside a (somewhat) re-sealable transparent plastic wrapping; housed in a black velvet box embossed with the DCD logo; housed in a printed white card outer box. If you're primarily buying this as an "investment" then you're going to have to keep all this stuff; if not, I guess that the white outer box and re-sealable plastic sleeves will be unnecessary, but it's nice to see that they've gone the extra mile when putting this together. There are also one or two thin CD booklets tucked into the replica sleeve for each SACD: they contain lyrics, credits and a reproduction of the label that appeared in the centre of the original vinyl record. Where an album was released on double vinyl, both inner sleeves are reproduced even though only one of them holds a disc.
