В 1996-м Стив вернулся в Австралию, где собрал новую конфигурацию "Mortification" с помощью своего бывшего роуди Кита Баннистера (ударные) и Линкольна Боуена (гитара).Свежая кровь пошла на пользу, и команда выдала один из сильнейших альбомов. "Envision Evangeline" имел стиль, смешанный из саунда классических команд типа "Manowar" и "Iron maiden" и звучания немецких трэшевых банд типа "Kreator". На следующий год у Роу обнаружилась лейкемия, и эта болезнь вывела его из строя на полтора года. Когда дело пошло на поправку, Стив и компания записали новый альбом и собирались отправиться на гастроли.
