Независимо от личных предпочтений в дискографии, «Dol Guldur» - классика Summoning, в качестве которой вряд усомнится хоть один поклонник австрийского дуэта, и просто один из лучших альбомов коллектива. В отличие от своих неоднозначных соседей – кристально-чистого, ясного и сухого «Minas Morgul» (1995), и эмоционального, но аморфного гимна ночи «Nightshade Forests» (1997), рецензируемый альбом удачно балансирует между гитарно-ориентированным блэковым прошлым и атмосферными изысками поздних работ, где гитара лишь создает необходимую фоновую тяжесть.
