Джо предложила контракт японская компания Pony Canyon, и, воспользовавшись ситуацией, он воплотил в жизнь свою давнишнюю мечту - альбом каверов, так и названный "Under Cover". В основном это были знаменитые хиты кумиров его юности - Grand Funk Railroad, Джими Хендрикса, Free, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ides Of March, Bad Company, Cream и другие. Наиболее примечательными треками были 3 следующих: "Street Of Dreams" Rainbow, "Hush" Deep Purple и "Thief In The Night" Fandango (!). После выпуска альбома Джо отыграл небольшое акустическое турне по Японии и вновь ударился в любимую сессионную работу.
