"To be honest uk radio including Radio 1 was always reluctant to play trance (even during what is described as the trance heyday!) I remember the battles that went on for weeks trying to get them to playlist these "difficult records" for instance Delerium - Silence (which went on to become number 1 in the charts) but by having these slots on my show often producers and programmers who had initially rejected traks as not radio friendly enough eventually came round after hearing them on daytime radio, and seeing all the text coming into the station from trance fans as a result of the airplay. I'm sure there were other djs on other stations fighting their battles and the end result was these records did get heard by a wider audience in the end, and are now rightly regarded as anthems in their own right. Around that period I managed to persuade Radio 1 to stage giant free dance parties around the UK using the Radio 1 Roadshow Soundsystem where djs like Paul Van Dyk came and played for free to aboring fans, they were great days. It's given me a great buzz to play a part in the journey of so many of the records on this album including the ones i signed to my Nulife label Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky, Dirt Devils - The Drill and Ocean Lab - Satellite. All the tracks on here hold very special memories for me and i hope for you too. Of course trance never went away and there's some great new talent out there. If you'd like an album of nu-trance check out my Delirium albums on Ministry of Sound, these reflect the style I'm playing in the second hour on my Friday night Radio 1 show and at clubs like Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound.
