Grimrik is a single German composer also known for having released a cult dungeon synth album in the ’90s under the name Nazgûl, Ash nazg durbatulûk… He also plays drums for Arath, who play more conventional black metal but also happen to release a good amount of dungeon synth material themselves. Grimrik is no newcomer to these genres, and his experience encompasses Eisreich. It must be said, Eisreich is more of a minimalist and ambient take on dungeon synth, avoiding the deliberately tacky, video-game-esque tones of many acts. This may be what sets Eisreich apart from the pack: masterful sound choices, clever buildups, and an overwhelming coldness.
