"Зарево в северном небе" - блэковый опус норвежского коллектива Darkthrone, свалившегося на голову английского лэйбла Peaceville. Альбом записывался в студии, и качество записи еще не так ужасно, как на "Transilvanian Hunger", но, по сравнению с отшлифованным "Soulside Journey", кажется диким. Знаменитая атмосфера "Темного Трона" уже оформилась - благодаря ей "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" стал образцом для подражания многих блэковых групп. Альбом открывает 10-минутная композиция "Kathaarian Life Code", самая, пожалуй, богатая по разнообразию звучания композиция "Зарева". Начинается с медленного атмосферного хорала, сильно напоминающего пение на богослужениях катаров (название очень в тему). На середине второй минуты начинается рубилово, чередующееся с медленными дарк-метал проигрышами. "In The Shadow Of The Horns" - гимн Тьмы, одно из лучших мест альбома, и "Paragon Belial" - исполняются в тогдашнем духе группы: переход от быстрой игры к медленной. "Where Cold Winds Blow" - еще один "эталон" блэка. "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" - заглавная песня с потрясающе красивой лирикой, единственная в своем роде у Darkthrone. Завершает диск злобная "Языческая зима". К true black, как стилю, можно относиться по-разному, но этот альбом, несомненно, задал основные стандарты всему жанру и не может не заслуживать высокого балла.
