Группа была образована в 1981 году, в японском городе Осака. Основали группу гитарист Акира Такасаки, басист Хироюки Танака и барабанщик Мунетака Хигучи. В том же 1981 году, в августе была начата запись дебютника, а в ноябре состоялся выпуск дебютного альбома - The Birthday Eve, с текстами преимущественно на японском языке. Далее последовали еще 2 альбома, исполненных в хард-роковом стиле, принеся группе значительную известность на их родине. Видя успех у фанов, группой было принято решение ориентироваться на американский рынок.
