В 1985 году Кит Эмерсон и Грег Лейк запланировали воссоединение группы в оригинальном составе. Однако Карл Палмер был связан контрактными обязательствами с группой Asia, поэтому им пришлось искать нового барабанщика. Для того, чтобы сохранить прежнее название группы (ELP), фамилия барабанщика должна была начинаться на букву «П». В то же время, Кози Пауэлл, близкий друг Кита Эмерсона очень вовремя для группы оставил Whitesnake. И хотя его манера игры не была подходящей для традиционного стиля ELP, он органично проявил себя на этом альбоме.
