За такую работу как "The Battle of Los Angeles" группе извиняться точно не нужно. Героем дня выступил Тома Морелло, чей талант (как обычно) сделал процентов 80 альбома. Его оригинальные мелодии и эксперименты со звуком затмевают и речитативы, и ритм-секцию. После двух альбомов были примерно понятно, чего ждать от RATM на этот раз, но песня "Mic Check" превзошла все ожидания. Не так-то просто было поверить в то, что подобный трек можно записать с использованием стандартных инструментов. Даже для таких новаторов она звучит необычно и обладает особенной харизмой. Вообще, подобных сильных треков тут еще два - это мрачные "War Within a Breath" и "Born of Broken Man". Другие песни представляют другие фишки альбома: от поп-мотива "Sleep Now in the Fire" до качающих "Guerillia Radio" и "Testify". Записано и сведено все на максимальный балл, так что по совокупности всех плюсов "The Battle..." можно считать лучшим у группы.
