Honky Château (deutsch etwa: Verrufenes Schloss) ist das fünfte Studioalbum des britischen Sängers und Komponisten Elton John.

Schon bald nach der Veröffentlichung von Madman Across the Water wollte der arbeitswütige John sein nächstes Projekt starten. In diesem Zusammenhang riet ihm sein Steuerberater, zukünftige Alben aus fiskalischen Gründen besser nicht in Großbritannien aufzunehmen. Es gab im damaligen Europa auch außerhalb Großbritanniens moderne Aufnahmestudios. Aber kaum ein britischer Künstler hatte je auch nur darüber nachgedacht, diese zu nutzen. Vielversprechend war eine Idee von Johns Produzenten Gus Dudgeon: 40 Kilometer nördlich von Paris befand sich ein Studio, das nur Strawberry genannt wurde und im Château d’Hérouville aus dem 17.

Se lanzaron dos sencillos en todo el mundo de Honky Château, "Rocket Man" y "Honky Cat". Se preparó un tercer sencillo, "Hercules", pero nunca se materializó. Madman Across the Water („Ein Verrückter jenseits des Ozeans“) ist das vierte Studioalbum des britischen Sängers und Komponisten Elton John.

Die Vertragsverhältnisse zwischen John und seinem Musikverlag machten es für ihn erforderlich, ein neues Album einzuspielen. Da er sich fast ständig auf Tournee befand, fehlte ihm die Zeit, neue Titel zu komponieren. Den meist vorhandenen Vorrat an fertigen Liedern hatte er bereits für das letzte Album Tumbleweed Connection aufgebraucht. Nur das Titellied Madman Across the Water stand ihm noch von damals zur Verfügung. Bernie Taupin schrieb daher Texte über Amerika, wie er es damals sah, und John komponierte unter Zeitdruck dazu Melodien. Das Album wurde in nur zehn Tagen im Studio aufgezeichnet.

Das in nostalgischem Sepia gehaltene Coverbild des Konzeptalbums „Tumbleweed Connection“ zeigt einen verschlafenen Bahnhof, scheinbar im sonnendurchfluteten Süden der USA, passend zu Bernie Taupins amerikanisierter Lyrik auf dem Album über Landleben, Soldaten und Revolverhelden. Der Fotograf David Larkham (nach anderen Angaben: Ian Digby-Ovens) schoss das Foto von John (sitzend) und Taupin (stehend) 1970 jedoch nur knapp fünfzig Kilometer südlich von London. Die Bluebell Railway Station befindet sich in Horsted Keynes.

Elton John is the second studio album by English singer-songwriter Elton John, released on 10 April 1970 by DJM Records. It was released by Uni Records as John's debut album in the United States; many people there assumed it was his first album, as Empty Sky was not released in that country until 1975. Elton John includes his breakthrough single "Your Song", and helped to establish his career during what was considered the "singer-songwriter" era of popular music. In the US, it was certified gold in February 1971 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In the same year, it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
