Идея создания и реализации группы целиком и полностью принадлежит Питу Баумгартнеру — композитору и сценаристу, до появления De-Phazz работавшему в производстве рекламы и разработке различных арт-проектов. В начале 90-х Баумгартнер создал свою собственную студию. В 1994-м Пит познакомился с певицей Барбарой Лар, бывшей вокалисткой малоизвестной группы Janet The Planet, и был покорён её глубоким и разноплановым голосом. Годом позже Баумгартнер привлёк к работе американца Карла Фриерсона, чей альбом тогда продюсировал. В 1997-м вышел их дебютный альбом Detunized Gravity.

Love Life is the third studio album by American new wave band Berlin. It was released on March 12, 1984, by Geffen Records. Recorded between October and December 1983, the album features production from Mike Howlett, Giorgio Moroder, and Richie Zito. Four singles were released from the album, including "No More Words", which became the band's first top-40 single on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 23. Later, second single "Now It's My Turn" peaked at #74. The album itself became the band's highest-charting album on the Billboard 200, peaking at number 28.

С одной стороны, вроде бы ничего и не изменилось – музыка в том же стиле, красивые и интересные мелодии, НЕдавящие на мозги биты, классное синтетическое звучание, да и вокал всё так же грустновато-меланхоличный, но чувствуется, что группа сделала шаг вперёд. В сравнении с предыдущим альбомом мелодии стали интереснее, красочней, если внимательно прислушаться, то в каждой песне может обнаружить столько различных тем и нойзов, что даже удивляешься – зачем всё это? Но вряд ли это лишнее – кто услышит, тот ещё раз убедится, что не зря их назвали королями. Качество звука на максимуме – а разве когда-то было иначе? – как и лирика, она всё так же имеет лёгкий философский оттенок, над некоторыми текстами можно даже немного поломать голову после прослушивания.
