В 1990 году в одном из пабов Ньюкасла встретились бывший вокалист "Sabbat" Мартин Волкайер и экс-участник "Satan" и "Pariah" Стив Рэмси. За несколькими кружками пива они обсудили возможность совместного творчества и записи альбома. К делу привлекли бывшего коллегу Рэмси, бас-гитариста Грэма Инглиша, и таким образом на свет появился проект "Skyclad". Демо для первого альбома представляли собой обычные трэшевые номера, и лишь в некоторые композиции была включена скрипка. Контрактная проблема решилась легко, поскольку со времен "Sabbat" у Мартина оставались завязки с "Noise records".
