Собственно, "Effigy of the Forgotten" практически ни в чём не проще остальных альбомов, несмотря на дату выхода. Я даже боюсь представить, чем был в 1991-ом году этот диск на фоне флоридских коллег по цеху, едва-едва отошедших от трэшевых корней. Это одна из отличительных черт Suffocation – альбомы группы мало отличаются друг от друга, и в то же время каждый из них лучше остальных (за исключением самого последнего на данный момент, возможно). Гений Suffocation состоит в том, что играя brutal technical death metal, они всё же остаются доступными для восприятия и скрывают за замудрёным звучанием всамделишную глубину. Подавляющее большинство групп данного жанра маскирует за сложными аранжировками и миллионами нескладных риффов зияющую пустоту. Расслушиваешь их, едва ли не заучиваешь на память, а в итоге оказывается, что это было лишь тратой времени. В случае с Suffocation усилия не пропадают зря.
