Группа образована в 1989 году в Далласе, штат Техас. Собственный стиль ABSU называют "Mythological Occult Metal". Двумя создателями этого кроваво-жестокого проекта стали Equitant Ifernain (бас-гитара, гитара, бэк-вокал) и Shaftiel (лидер гитара, бас-гитара, акустика). В 1992 году музыканты подписывают контракт с Gothic Records (USA) и выпускают «Temples of Offal 7» EP. Пластинка разошлась тиражом 2 тысячи экземпляров и получила отличные отзывы. Затем в составе происходят перемены: Proscriptor McGovern занялся перкуссией, программированием, вокалом, текстами. В 1993 году выходит дебютный альбом «Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L.»
