Год спустя группу оставил Stefan Pöge, и уже без него, в 1996 году, Desultory выпустил неоднозначный альбом "Swallow The Snake", продемонстрировавший отход от прежнего стиля в сторону дэт-н-ролла. Поклонники восприняли смену курса более чем прохладно, и спустя некоторое время Desultory распались. Трое её участников организовали проект Zebulon, и продолжили свою карьеру уже играя гранж-рок.
