Abysmal Grief из итальянского города Генуя, была создана в 1995 году по инициативе гитариста Regen Graves. В первый состав так же вошли вокалист Garian, бас-гитарист Lord Alastair и барабанщик Fog. Окрестив свой стиль как Horror Metal, единомышленники, которых объединяла общая страсть к оккультизму, приступили к подготовке дум-металлического материала, густо замешенного на эзотерике и таинственных ритуалах. В октябре 1996 года группа усиливается клавишником Labes C. Necrothytus, принёсшим с собой множество свежих идей и мелодий.
