Дарк-вэйв-проект из Миннеаполиса, Aesma Daeva, был основан гитаристом Джоном Прассасом в 1996 году. Джону порядком надоела музыка, которую предлагал мэйнстрим со своим предсказуемым набором инструментов (гитара, бас, ударные, вокал). Прассас же тяготел к чему-нибудь абстрактному, и поэтому он заинтересовался творчеством индастриал-групп типа Skinny Puppy, применяющих электронику в нетрадиционной манере. Поэтому-то он и решил начать эксперименты со всякими синтезаторно-компьютерными делами.
