Одна из старейших голландских брутальных команд начала свою деятельность в 1987 году с исполнения каверов "Celtic Frost" и "Mayhem", но со временем обрела собственный стиль, пограничный с думом и дэтом. Основали "Asphyx" барабанщик Боб Багчус и гитарист Тонни metal. В 1988-м, когда парни еще находились под большим влиянием "Celtic Frost", "Messiah", "Death" и, конечно же "Venom", ими было записано первое демо, "Carnage Remains". Композиции на нем являлись чистыми инструменталками, а качество оставляло желать лучшего, так что на пленку никто особого внимания не обратил. Вскоре после этого к "Asphyx" присоединился поющий басист Чак Колли. Записанная с ним демка "Enter The Domain" также имела неважный звук, однако на сей раз андеграунд отреагировал благосклонно.
