Когда голладская команда Asphyx издала свой дебютный полноформатник - "The Rack", дэт-сцена во всем мире стала уходить в сторону улучшения качества записи и техничности игры, все более отдаляясь от той тьмы, что была духом раннего death-metal'a. Голладцы, видимо, решили вернуть музыке первоначальный дух. Стиль "The Rack" определялся самими музыкантами как death-doom. Гитары получились типично по-дэтовски колючими. Вокал Мартина ван Друнена из Pestilence вполне соответствует названию группы - при прослушивании кажется, что у вокалиста и впрямь "асфиксия дыхательных путей". Барабанная партия провалена назад. Общее звучание - олдскульно-угарное, примитивное, но искренное.
