Desire is the seventeenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on January 5, 1976, through Columbia Records. It is one of Dylan's most collaborative efforts, featuring the same caravan of musicians as the acclaimed Rolling Thunder Revue tours the previous year (later documented on The Bootleg Series Vol. 5). Many of the songs also featured backing vocals by Emmylou Harris and Ronee Blakley. Most of the album was co-written by Jacques Levy, and is composed of lengthy story-songs, two of which quickly generated controversy: the 11-minute-long "Joey", which is seen as glorifying the violent gangster "Crazy Joey" Gallo, and "Hurricane", the opening track that tells a passionate account of the murder case against boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, who the song asserts was framed. Carter was released in 1985, after a judge overturned his conviction on appeal.

The idea of “maturity” in music is a vague one at the best of times. The notion that you are supposed to sound a certain way because you’ve been making records for over 30 years – like you are in some way to be “grown up” and write something that you don’t believe in – has always seemed rather nonsensical. That way madness – or at the very least bland, anodyne shite – lies. Thank Christ – or Satan, whatever, we’re easy – that no one told Slayer this type of thing (and as an aside, wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting where someone told Kerry King their next album was going to be introspective?!) and thank whatever you choose that Obituary have chosen to go down the same path. You almost knew they would, as soon as you saw the album title. If Obituary were going to give this one their band name then this was never going to be anything other than nasty, vicious and breakneck stuff. It is all that and a lot more. And it might as well be said right now that it is quite brilliant. If no one was really expecting the EP that emerged last year, then equally it was something of a shock that this ten tracker followed so soon after. It does, and it finds the five piece in rare form. Pick a song from opener “Brave” to the closer “Ten Thousand Ways To Die” and you will essentially find the same thing. Riffs at a million miles an hour, solos that are faster, and when it does do a breakdown then you’d best believe these are earth shakers. To call this mighty does the word an injustice. “Sentence Day” passes by in such a blur you barely have time to register just how good it is. Death metal yes, but no one does it quite as thrashy as this, and no one sounds like James Tandy on vocals, no one plays drums like his brother Donald and there isn’t a guitar paring with the sensibilities of Trevor Peres and Kenny Andrews in extreme metal. The four – together with the pummelling bass of Terry Butler – are right at the top of their game throughout. Almost hardcore in its intent “End This Now” is a broken bottle in the teeth, “Kneel Before Me” channels some kind of malevolence and whatever “it” is, in “It Lives” you had best steer well clear. It is rare that something is as genuinely hate-filled yet so accessible. “Betrayed” settles itself into a groove, and “Turned To Stone” – which for this record is positively epic at over four minutes – is perhaps the heaviest work here, which for the sake of argument makes it very, very heavy indeed. The opening line of “Straight To Hell” seems to capture the whole vibe here: “We’re going straight to hell, on a one night train” growls Tardy. And believe us when we say, it is the devil himself that needs to be scared. This is the sound of Obituary coming back to claim their title as the Kings of Death Metal. And they’ve done it in style.

Зато музыкально всё по-прежнему впечатляет. Песни "Major Arcana" и "Ravenous" звучат тяжело, с гулкими риффами и грандиозной драмой, а "Mercy" - пожалуй, эмоциональный центр пластинки: медленный, протяжный, с голосом Пола Кувелиса, которой одновременно звучит как угроза и как признание в бессилии. В финале "XXII" Novembers Doom выдают то, что умеют лучше всего - апокалиптический финал, густой, отчаянный и катарсический.

Всё-таки нет у этой группы похожих альбомов! Это в очередной раз доказывает данный диск. Немного поиграв доступный для широких металлических масс высококлассный трэш в 1990-м году, группа незамедлительно пошла дальше и уже через год снова удивила своих поклонников. Метаморфозы оказались значительны, альбом можно назвать ЗВЕРСКИМ без преувеличения. Жесточайшие риффы, беспощадная ритм-секция, вокал Сабины, доходящий почти до гроулинга - всё это сделало данный релиз одним из ключевых в тогдашнем брутальном трэше и одним из самых жестоких в трэше вообще.

KONKHRA – датские ветераны technical death metal. Группа была образована в 1990 году, а дебютный полноформатный альбом «Sexual Affective Disorder” вышел в 1993 году. В 90-е группа выпустила четыре альбома, принесшие ей славу одной из самых сумасшедших группы в death metal. В то время подобные эпитеты получали монстры MESHUGGAH. Хотя, надо сказать, Kreator пугают законопослушных граждан ужасами грядущего Апокалипсиса, сопровождаемого кризисами как в экологии, так и в общественной морали, да еще и дополненного зверствами новых религиозных войн честно, от души. И обложка на сей раз вышла такой, что ежели заменить, скажем, черепа под ногами кошмарной четверки "лошадок" на что-нибудь более "мясистое", она вполне сошла бы для оформления какой-нибудь из работ знаменитых любителей красочной расчлененки из Cannibal Corpse. Но вот собственно музыка на этот раз способна шокировать скорее не упитанного добродушного бюргера, а определенную часть целевой аудитории - эдакого худощавого волосатого и/или бородатого трэшера "со стажем". И причина тому проста: по-видимому, перед нами самая мелодичная пластинка среди всех, выпущенных Kreator за вот уже тридцатилетнюю историю. Кажется, Kreator на сей раз удалось в оптимальных пропорциях соединить лучшие наработки "Violent Revolution" и "Enemy Of God", дополнив их несколькими удачными "аранжировочными" находками, добавившими альбому пресловутую "нелинейность" развития. Которая, впрочем, все равно никому не была бы нужна, если бы не идеально подходящий для подобного "умничания" материал, подбор которого сделан на совесть.

Дебютник замечательной викинг-металической команды. Мелодично, напористо, разнообразно, чуть грязновато (последнее объясняется годом выхода альбома - ранее у группы существовал только миньон 1994, еще менее технически совершенный). Вообще, прослеживается очень положительная черта викинга в целом - если мелодия грустная, то это еще не значит, что она обязательно сопливая. Музыка кое-где не страдает сложностью, но, тем не менее, очень приятна на слух

The first two albums were produced by Smiley and Huff, the two friends who formed the group and were listening to groups like Toto, Boz Scaggs, Journey, and Steely Dan at the time.The original lineup consisted of Billy Smiley (guitar, keyboards, and occasional lead vocals), Mark Gersmehl (keyboards and occasional lead vocals), Steve Green (lead vocals), Gary Lunn (bass), and brothers Dann and David Huff (guitars/vocals & drums respectively).
