Isis (принято как ISIS) — группа из Лос-Анджелеса (штат Калифорния), основанная в Бостоне (штат Массачусетс). Их карьера охватывает период с 1997 по 2010 годы. Игра музыкантов – второе после проектирования музыки слагаемое успеха в пост-метале, и у участников группы попросту не было причин сдавать позиции и терять искру. Гитары и бас звучат еще интереснее, менее предсказуемо, то есть все чаще дифференцируют свои партии, а уследить за ними в отдельных композициях очень нелегко ввиду резкого увеличения скоростей и инструментальной плотности. Музыка в целом сохранила и, пожалуй, даже усилила ощущение своей органичности. Нововведением явились все более раскрепощенные, словно включившиеся в стремительный ритм современной жизни и в то же время усилившие в себе «ритуальный» компонент ударные – доступность партий и сопутствующая легкость гитарной мысли акцентировали в музыке коллектива до этого неясные оптимистические интонации.

Первый релиз Isis – это повод для размышлений, если вы уже знакомы с поздним творчеством группы, и просто первая ласточка впечатляющих экземпляров экспериментального хардкора, если это название вам вдруг мало чего говорит. Стиль группы чувствуется сразу же в медленных, подготовительных частях (вступление к “Poison Eggs” – это Isis на все времена), тяжеленные хардкоровые риффы, как и экстремальный вокал, тоже уже встречались, но только не в таком бескомпромиссном проявлении. На «Mosquito Control», похоже, единственный основополагающий принцип - гротесковый хаос.

Что ж, кто-то выбирает землю, кто-то воздух, кто-то огонь, а кто-то воду и тоже в самом глобальном контексте. Уже по названию диска ясно, что Isis выбрали последнее, и организовали нам загадочное и захватывающее путешествие по водной глади с полным погружением на глубину. Надо сразу же сказать, что Аарон Тернер и компания не сильно ездят по ушам и бросаются в крайности, иными словами экспериментируют, но в меру. Но буквально через пару песен ощущаются масштабы мыслительной деятельности по созданию вот таких вот атмосферных (?) полотен. Как правильно заметили уже все на свете, Isis великолепно совмещают монотонность звучания с интересными вариациями композиционной структуры.

Переработать сладж под углом пост-рока могло бы показаться задачей не из легких, если бы эта переработка не была подготовлена творчеством предшествующих групп и собственно прошлыми альбомами Isis, но здесь дело пошло дальше – в пост-роке оказалась растворена вся металическая оболочка. Получившийся состав со сладжевым осадком равномерно разлит в формы, коих на «Panopticon» 7. Композиции завораживают своей эмоциональной тонкостью и мелодической отделкой, а главное – своим развитием во времени и даже пространстве

Rock Sound ranked it as the 39th best album of 2006 in its yearly rundown.
