Madman Across the Water („Ein Verrückter jenseits des Ozeans“) ist das vierte Studioalbum des britischen Sängers und Komponisten Elton John.

Die Vertragsverhältnisse zwischen John und seinem Musikverlag machten es für ihn erforderlich, ein neues Album einzuspielen. Da er sich fast ständig auf Tournee befand, fehlte ihm die Zeit, neue Titel zu komponieren. Den meist vorhandenen Vorrat an fertigen Liedern hatte er bereits für das letzte Album Tumbleweed Connection aufgebraucht. Nur das Titellied Madman Across the Water stand ihm noch von damals zur Verfügung. Bernie Taupin schrieb daher Texte über Amerika, wie er es damals sah, und John komponierte unter Zeitdruck dazu Melodien. Das Album wurde in nur zehn Tagen im Studio aufgezeichnet.

Madman Across the Water is the fourth studio album by British musician Elton John, released on 5 November 1971 by DJM and Uni Records. The album was his third album to be released in 1971, at which point John had been rising to prominence as a popular music artist. John's first progressive rock album, Madman Across the Water contains nine tracks, each composed and performed by John and with lyrics written by songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman plays Hammond organ on two songs.

И вот свершилось то, чего я так долго ждал – основной акцент поставлен в музыкальном материале на красивую, хитовую и запоминающуюся мелодику.

Das in nostalgischem Sepia gehaltene Coverbild des Konzeptalbums „Tumbleweed Connection“ zeigt einen verschlafenen Bahnhof, scheinbar im sonnendurchfluteten Süden der USA, passend zu Bernie Taupins amerikanisierter Lyrik auf dem Album über Landleben, Soldaten und Revolverhelden. Der Fotograf David Larkham (nach anderen Angaben: Ian Digby-Ovens) schoss das Foto von John (sitzend) und Taupin (stehend) 1970 jedoch nur knapp fünfzig Kilometer südlich von London. Die Bluebell Railway Station befindet sich in Horsted Keynes.

Despite the band's troubles during the recording, the album peaked at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was certified silver, the only silver certification in a string of gold or platinum-certified albums by the BPI. The album included the single "Here I Go Again", released in October 1982, that charted at number 34, but did not chart any of the singles charts in the United States. Eventually, it would resurface in 1987, with a new version that would characterise Whitesnake, in the future.

The album featured two of the band's UK single-hits from that year: "Fool for Your Loving" had reached No. 13 in the charts on 26 April 1980, and the title-track, "Ready an' Willing (Sweet Satisfaction)" made No. 43 in July of the same year. On 2 August 1980 "Fool for Your Loving" peaked at No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100; the song would later be re-recorded for the Slip of the Tongue album. The track "Blindman", initially from David Coverdale's first solo album White Snake, was re-recorded for this album.

The band worked on the album at Clearwell Castle. Like their two previous recordings it was also produced by Martin Birch. It was the group's last album to feature Dave Dowle, before being replaced by ex-Purple drummer Ian Paice.
Marsden recalled that at the time band members argued in "a good, healthy, positive" way and "because of that the band got better and more successful with Ready An' Willing (1980) and Come an' Get It (1981)". He considered it a good record, a sentiment Coverdale didn't share and would have rather released it as an EP.

Live...in the Heart of the City is a 1980 live album by English rock band Whitesnake. Originally released as a double-vinyl album, and double-play cassette, it utilises recordings made in 1978 and 1980. The album charted at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart with Platinum certification, and number 146 on the Billboard 200. The Classic Rock magazine in 2011 and 2023 placed it among the best live albums ever.
