Co-produced by Lennon, Ono and Phil Spector, it followed Lennon's recording of three experimental releases with Ono and a live album from the 1969 version of the Plastic Ono Band. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band contains a largely raw production sound with songs heavily influenced by Lennon's recent primal therapy. Its lyrics reflect Lennon's personal issues and includes themes of child-parent abandonment and psychological suffering. The tracks were recorded in September and October 1970 at Abbey Road Studios in London, simultaneously with Ono's solo album.

John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band is the first solo album by English musician John Lennon after the break-up of the Beatles. Backed by the Plastic Ono Band (consisting of Lennon on guitar, Ringo Starr on drums, and Klaus Voormann on bass), it was released by Apple Records on 11 December 1970 in tandem with the similarly titled album by his wife, Yoko Ono. At the time of its issue, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band received mixed reviews overall, but later came to be widely regarded as one of Lennon's best solo albums.

It seems that Joe has been on a mission to record and release a live album from all of his “fantasy” venues. Live at Radio City Music Hall is live album number eight, and features over 75 minutes of music, including two newly recorded songs, nine unreleased live tracks, over 2.5 hours of live footage, a special 45-minute behind-the-scenes featurette, a 40-page collector’s book with exclusive photos, and a sneak peek into Bonamassa’s childhood home and musical heritage. The package definitely was obviously put together with the aficionado in mind.

Joe Bonamassa releases yet another live CD! This is from the July 2016 show at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, at which this reviewer was lucky enough to be present.

As the title suggests, this is a salute to the Brit blues heroes, featuring the unbelievable music of Clapton/Cream (Mainline Florida/SWALBR ), Jeff Beck (opener Beck’s Bolero/Rice Pudding) and Jimmy Page (Tea For One/I Can’t Quit You). The solos were long and fantastic, whereas the backing from Michael Rhodes on bass, Reese Wynans on keys, Russ Irwin on guitars and keyboards and an outstanding, super energized Anton Fig on drums whose mastery of his kit brought to a spellbinding climax the initial proceedings with a dynamic solo in Led Zeppelin’s “How Many Times,” but possibly also some of the audience as well.

Night two at Shepherd’s Bush Empire was the blues night and featured a horns section. The set list consisted mostly of songs from The Ballad of John Henry album through Driving Towards The Daylight. B.B. King’s “Chains & Things” made its way onto the set list, a song which Bonamassa previously recorded for The Ballad Of John Henry, though it did not make the album and was later released as a bonus track on the Japanese version of Black Rock.

Night four sees Bonamassa return to the Royal Albert Hall, the venue that helped launch his career to the next level back in 2009. The show kicks off with an eight song acoustic set, and then an electric set after intermission, which begins with “Slow Train.” The Royal Albert Hall performance includes most Bonamassa staples, including “Driving Towards The Daylight,” with Doug Henthorn on backup vocals, an out of this world rendition of “The Ballad of John Henry,” where keyboardist Arlan Schierbaum really shines on the Hammond organ, plus “Mountain Time,” the always mesmerizing “Sloe Gin,” and one of the most raucous renditions to date of “Just Got Paid,” which closes out the show.

Joe Bonamassa's Tour de Force: Hammersmith Apollo (part of the larger Live in London series from 2013) was a highly praised "rock night" show, celebrated for its powerful, electrifying performance with a full band, featuring classic rock anthems, killer solos, and a great mix of electric and acoustic elements, proving Bonamassa was at the peak of his powers, even if the studio-like audio fades between tracks drew mixed reactions from some fans.
