В музыкальном плане имеем сильно прииндустриаленный готик-металл. Иногда откровенно попсовый, а местами с взрывными риффовыми вставками. Наконец-то появились приятные слуху соло, которые достойно разбавляют основное музыкальное полотно. Достаточно хитовые мелодии, правда, очень сильно отдающие плагиатом на какие-то до боли знакомые попсовые группы. В коммерческом плане у группы должен начаться нехилый рост - за счет упрощения музыкального материала и ориентацию на широкие массы.

Замечательная работа австралийского труженика черно-металического фронта Азгора и видных финских подземщиков, таких, как, например, гитарист Шатраугх - он не менее неугомонная творческая единица, чем лидер DTL. Музыка, правда, не хило так отличается от активно развиваемого в последние года три стиля Drowning The Light, но это не делает ее плохой.

Но, как оказалось, Dark Moor действительно провели работу над ошибками, сгладив все шероховатости "Project X", подправив звук, и сделали упор на хитовость. И действительно, песни запоминаются, и недостающая, казалось бы, тяжесть становится незаметна. Соло звучат звонко, ритм иной раз достигает характерных для Power Metal скоростей. Вокал кристально чист, время от времени перекрывая гул инструментов, словно глашатай перед толпой.

«Fuck Off and Die!» - плюет Дарктрон в лицо всем, кого в них что-то не устраивает, и плевком и является сей альбом. Обложка навевает настроение продолжить ту веселуху, которая ждала нас в «The Cult is Alive» (2006), те самые панковые запили с блэковым звучанием, нарочно неряшливый, фирменный грязный звук, сдобренный агрессивным гроулом... И отчасти это действительно так. Это не Даркторон времен «Transilvanian Hunger» (1994) и «Panzerfaust» (1995), это логическое продолжение «The Cult is Alive». Вокал Фэнриза отчетливо вырисовывает картину альбома. Навряд ли те, кто всерьез увлекается «тру норвегиан блэк-метал», воспримут эту работу всерьез. Да, действительно, Дарктрон забил на злющие гримы, северный ветер, трансильванский голод и прочее, при этом становясь каким-то странным гибридом панка и блэка. Да вообще, о чем это я? Это же новая работа от культовой блэк-команды из Норвегии, DarkThrone!

The limited, numbered MODE is due on January 24 from Rhino/Warner (in the U.S.) and Sony (in the U.K.). The 18-CD collection rounds up all fourteen of Depeche Mode's studio albums plus four additional discs of bonus material. In total, MODE features 63 non-album singles, B-sides, and bonus tracks spanning 1983-2017 including the previously unreleased "Heroes (Highline Session Version)."

2008 sees the release (on Hybrid SACD and conventional CD) of the complete MSFL remasters of the complete Dead Can Dance catalogue of eight albums and one EP. This box set (a limited edition of 1500) gathers together those individual releases on SACD and pride of ownership is high. To be specific, each disc comes in: a protective, fine plastic sleeve inside a printed paper inner sleeve; inside a stiff card replica of the original LP sleeve; inside a (somewhat) re-sealable transparent plastic wrapping; housed in a black velvet box embossed with the DCD logo; housed in a printed white card outer box. If you're primarily buying this as an "investment" then you're going to have to keep all this stuff; if not, I guess that the white outer box and re-sealable plastic sleeves will be unnecessary, but it's nice to see that they've gone the extra mile when putting this together. There are also one or two thin CD booklets tucked into the replica sleeve for each SACD: they contain lyrics, credits and a reproduction of the label that appeared in the centre of the original vinyl record. Where an album was released on double vinyl, both inner sleeves are reproduced even though only one of them holds a disc.

Альбом "Scream Bloody Gore" выпущенный в мае 1987 группой Death на независимом лейбле Combat Records сразу застолбил за собой место эталонного альбома в жанре дэт-метал. Нет, не надо сравнивать его с классикой жанра конца 80-ых - начала 90-ых. Эти сравнения неуместны, потому как, конечно же, альбомы 1989 года "Altars of Madness" и "Slowly We Rot" (сами знаете кого), на порядок лучше практически по всем показателям. Но необходимо принимать во внимание, что создавались они на фундаменте именно этого альбома, так презираемого многими. Да и этот релиз, не задержи лейбл его выпуск, потребовав, кстати, второй вариант записи (именно поэтому продюсером альбома значится Рэнди Бернс, а не Стивен Синклер, "руливший" первоначальным вариантом записи), мог выйти гораздо раньше.

После предыдущего сомнительно-электронного альбома Доро вернулась к корням (точнее, пожалуй, к стеблю, о спиде здесь речи нет, да и не ждал никто такого). Однако фишки с предыдущего релиза не были забыты. Поэтому слушаешь "Terrovision" и вспоминаешь Rammstein. В результате музыка на альбоме стала разнообразной, а жесткость и мелодизм находятся в близкой к идеалу пропорции. На диске целых 6 баллад, но и жестких тем хватает. Заглавная вещь немного отдает Kingdom Come. Также есть кавер "Barracuda" (кажется, в оригинале ее "Hearts" исполняли). Резюме - один из лучших альбомов певицы.

When someone talks about concept albums in metal, Dream Theater’s ‘Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory’ is bound to come up; mainly because it was a landmark album that was universally admired both for its themes and musicianship. Dream Theater haven’t done a full concept album since then; they’ve done concept songs, but haven’t really dedicated a whole album to it. Seventeen years after ‘…Scenes from a Memory’, they have decided to create another concept album. ‘The Astonishing’ is the result of more than two years of work by John Petrucci and the band, and they have come extremely close to topping ‘Scenes from a Memory’, by taking you out of this world and into their fantastical land to tell you a tale of struggle, love, despair and hope.
With ‘The Astonishing’, Dream Theater has brought to fruition what they have said is their most ambitious project. ‘The Astonishing’ tells us a story about the importance of music through music, and what better story-tellers are suited to this task than Dream Theater? The band has given fans, old and new, an album which they will cherish for a long time. This is the kind of album that people will look back on with fond memories; I know I will. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this album performed live in some form or the other, for that is how this album was meant to be heard and seen.
