It's doubtful that many ardent 80s US Rock fans will find the cassock and cross wearing skeleton meets scarecrow on the front cover of ScareCrowd, by Italian upstarts Lost Reflection, eye catching, especially when you factor in the standard Extreme Metal typeface with which the band name is scrawled. However that's exactly the "enticement" that will cause this band's target audience to simply walk, or browse, on by. In truth, they won't be missing much.

Melodrama is the second studio album by New Zealand singer Lorde, released on 16 June 2017 through Republic Records. Writing for the album began as early as December 2013 and continued through "false starts, fruitless detours and stretches of inactivity" as Lorde stepped back from the public spotlight, taking shape after her breakup from her longtime boyfriend James Lowe in 2015. Bassist-of-choice for top-tier artists Russell Malone, Johnny O’Neal, Jimmy Greene and others, 26-year-old Luke Sellick is a compelling newcomer on the jazz scene. Raised in the rich and eclectic musical climate of Winnipeg, Canada, Luke’s musical journey lead him to New York where he attended The Juilliard School and was mentored by legendary bassist, Ron Carter. Alchemist is a 9-song exposition featuring some of the most prominent instrumentalists of New York’s next generation. It is an auspicious artistic statement combining themes relating to faith, upbringing, mentorship and an ongoing quest for knowledge.

Finally, after a mere seventeen years, Leatherwolf has finally released their next studio album. The newest offering from the vaunted "triple axe attack" is entitled World Asylum, the first studio album from the band since 1989's Street Ready. The Street Ready lineup of Leatherwolf did release a live album Wide Open in 1999, but there have been a number of lineup changes since that time. Most notably, lead vocalist / guitarist Michael Olivieri has been replaced by Wade Black, who is most recently known for his work with Crimson Glory, Seven Witches, and Leash Law. Eric Halpern (Destiny's End) and Pete Perez (Riot) have replaced Carey Howe and Paul Carman respectively. If you're keeping track, that means drummer Dean Roberts and guitarist Geoff Gayer are the only original members left. While this album is certainly not a carbon copy of the band's previous works, the spirit of the classic Leatherwolf sound is alive and well on World Asylum.

Sylvain Rifflet (saxophone and clarinet), Bruno Ruder (piano) and Chris Jennings (double bass) escort the singer in divine fashion until the fascination of the listener, if the latter is as audacious as the artist. This is probably why Patricia Barber says of him: "This is the one missing in the world of male vocalists, it can break your heart."
