Theo is a progressive rock projekt led by Jim Alfredson, otherwise known as the keyboardist for the great modern organ jazz trio Organissimo. The THEO debut album The Game of Ouroboros will be released on January 27, 2015. Progressive rock that captures the essence of the classic 70s bands but with modern sensibilities and production.

After emerging with ‘Rise’ close to a decade ago, The Answer received rave reviews, were lauded by their idols and even bagged a support slot with AC/DC, but never quite managed that elusive breakthrough. Then, just as blues-rock's stock was beginning to soar, they released 'New Horizon', a broadly forgettable album that sounded like their death knell. The Charlatans’ new release, Modern Nature, marks 25 years since their debut, and shows little sign of creative fatigue. Their first album since the death of drummer Jon Brookes – who died in 2013 from a brain tumour – enlists a number of contributors to mould its soulful sound, including Pete Salisbury of The Verve, Stephen Morris of New Order, Gabriel Gurnsey of Factory Floor, Kate Bush’s backing singers Melanie Marshall and Sandra Marvin, Sean O’ Hagan on strings and Dexys’ Big Jim Paterson on brass.

This two-CD, 51-song set covers virtually everything the group recorded with Steve Winwood in the lineup from 1964-1967. The gap between the band's best and worst material was considerable; quite a few of their R&B covers are surprisingly routine, and the occasional cuts that don't have Winwood on lead vocals are downright pedestrian. Because of this inconsistency, the general fan's better off with the Rhino best-of, if it can be found. If you want to get more, though, this is the first and last place to go, with all the hit singles, everything from their three albums, an early EP, some B-sides, and a couple of previously unissued tracks. And some of the obscure material is really good, whether in a straight R&B/blues or more soulful vein. Be aware that the version of "Gimme Some Lovin'" here is the less dynamic, original British mix, minus some backup vocals and percussion.

An impressive collaboration between two saxophone players: Holland's leading female saxophonist Tineke Postma and USA jazz star Greg Osby. On 'Sonic Halo' Osby's energetic modern sound combines beautifully with the melodic European influences of Tineke, and they are backed by a superb rhythm section.
