Двадцатый студийный альбом Scorpions продолжает курс «Sting In The Tail» (2010), взятый на неотразимый радиоформатный мелодический хард золотых времен коллектива рубежа 80-90-х годов. Это становится ясно с первой же ударной композиции «Going Out With a Bang», а подтверждается фирменной пауэр-балладой «House Of Cards», скроенной по лекалам «Wind Of Change», предвосхитившей падение Берлинской сцены и братание рокеров с Горбачевым. Две другие баллады «Rollin’ Home» и «Eye Of The Storm», надо сказать, не выглядят столь удачными. Пластинка же катится себе безукоризненным «Мерседесом», и единственная вещь, выпадающая из этого саунда — «The Scratch», припрятанная к концу и сыгранная в духе, скорее, южного рока. Привлекает внимание тот факт, что вокалист Клаус Майне в текст чуть ли не каждой песни вставляет слово «рок», но обмануть это может только тех из многочисленных поклонников группы, кто не слишком близко принимает к сердцу такое понятие, как рок-музыка.

Shadow King was a hard rock supergroup. Formed by former Foreigner lead singer Lou Gramm, former Sweet Savage, Dio, Whitesnake, Riverdogs, (currently Def Leppard) guitarist Vivian Campbell, Lou Gramm's former Black Sheep and then future Foreigner bandmate bass player Bruce Turgon, and drummer Kevin Valentine.
Vivian Campbell and Bruce Turgon both also played with Lou Gramm as a solo artist previous to Shadow King, with Vivian playing on Long Hard Look, and Bruce playing on Ready or Not and Long Hard Look.
They released a self-titled album in 1991. Although plans were made for a tour, they performed only once, at the Astoria Theatre in London, England, on December 13, 1991. Shortly afterward, Vivian Campbell announced he was leaving Shadow King to join Def Leppard. Although replacements were considered, the band members eventually went their separate ways, with Gramm and Turgon rejoining Foreigner in 1992.

Submotion Orchestra - a band who sound exactly as their name suggests - reawaken the rotting corpse of ’90s coffee-table chillout, issuing a mild dubstep sedative and putting it straight back to sleep. If you’re somehow hankering after a trip-hop fix you’re better off checking out the last month’s Red Snapper comeback, which doesn’t sound half as dated. Or just go back to your Lamb albums, of which there is a new one out this very month - gotta be better than this dozy fare.

With such a large and mostly coherent discography, it’s frankly impressive that Sol Invictus anno 2014 are incorporating the sounds of bands that they helped inspire. Once Upon A Time could be a one-time experiment with Anderson’s electric guitars, or it might signify a new chapter in Wakeford’s career. It’s a fresh take on the crooning folk noir, and their best album since at least 2002’s Thrones. For readers unfamiliar with the work of Sol Invictus, Death In June, or Current 93, this is a soft introduction and a good gateway into the eclectic world of neofolk.

Arcadian is the 8th full-length album from Seattle-based electronic-music songwriter/producer Symbion Project aka Kasson Crooker. While previous releases have seen the moniker’s sound range from chaotic IDM to cinematic downtempo to classical synthesizer music, Aracadian sees the project nod to electronic-based, beat-driven song structures that draw circles around the world’s more melancholy realities. The album is set for release on September 9th, 2016.
