Great White – американская рок-группа, образованная в 1978 году. Группа начинала свою карьеру как Dante Fox, сыграв свой первый концерт в 1981 году в Трубадуре (Голливуд, Калифорния). После записи нескольких демо группа выбирает своим менеджером Алана Найвена, который работал независимым дистрибьютором Greenworld в Торрансе (Калифорния) и договорился с Motley Crue об их дебютнике. Третий альбом Демона показал резкое изменение концепции группы в плане лирики и мистической атмосферы музыкального материала. Теперь уже тексты песен банда посвятила различным социальным и политическим проблемам. Клавишник Энди Ричардс, который появился ещё раньше на предыдущем успешном альбоме «The Unexpected Guest», только сейчас раскрылся на все сто процентов, и теперь каждая песня была оформлена клавишной аранжировкой, правда аранжировки эти, как я думаю все поняли, в стиле восьмидесятых годов, и единственное что они делают с музыкой - так это приближают её к поп року. Качество записи несколько улучшилось – сразу же стали отчётливо слышны плотные барабаны и более жёсткие гитары, однако за стилистику хард рока группа так и не перебралась. Вокалист Дэйв Хилл перестал слишком усиленно кричать, что только положительно отразилось на музыкальном материале. Ну а в общем, диск «The Plaque» получился весьма хорошим творением, и хотя как таковой новизны и оригинальности вы здесь не найдёте – все композиции предельно приятные и цепляющие.

Откатав аншлаговые гастроли с новаторским медивельно-неоклассическим проектом Qntal и засветившись на нескольких больших фестивалях, музыканты решили немного приостановить совместную деятельность. Это время они посвятили сольным проектам, после чего начались приготовления к записи "Kasmodiah". На сей раз в сессиях участвовали Майкл Попп и Кристиан Коморовский. В новом году Deine Lakaien заключили соглашение о сотрудничестве с Columbia Records, что принесло группе дополнительный коммерческий успех. Во многом благодаря лейблу Kasmodiah сразу же после выхода попал на 4-ю строчку немецких чартов. Две следующие студийные работы появились с интервалом в три года.

Финляндия точно не ограничивает свою роль на мировой тяжелой сцене сферой пауэра, мелодик-дэта, симфо- или какого-нибудь готика, но не прочь выступить и поставщиком кое-чего другого, в частности, грайндкора. Rotten Sound, To Separate The Flesh From The Bones и вот еще Deathbound. Последние из названных начали не совсем с грайндкора, зато сейчас уверенно и без угрызений совести нарезают его-родимого. На своем последнем альбоме группа представила 18 грайндкоровых кричалок с не сильно варьирующейся раз от раза композиционной структурой.

Крепко, стильно, интересно - это если характеризовать в нескольких словах. Конечно, если быть уж совсем дотошным, то здесь можно найти некоторые параллели с коллегами по цеху Covenant (некоторая отстранённая холодность атмосферы нескольких песен) и где-то даже с Depeche Mode (вокальные партии), но я думаю, что все согласятся с тем, что у De/Vision всё равно есть собственный почерк и стиль написания песен. Как мне показалось, на данной работе, музыканты несколько отошли от активного использования "живых" инструментов, уделив больше внимания синтезатору, что, впрочем, вовсе не ухудшает качества музыки, а скорее наоборот возвращает нас к тому материалу, с которого ребята начинали свой творческий путь, с поправкой на время, разумеется. Это умная, красивая и интересная поп-музыка, к которой можно смело добавить приставку "intelligent". Я употребил здесь термин "поп-музыка" немного условно, поскольку данный продукт очень сильно разнится с тем, что крутится по музыкальным каналам и что музыкой можно назвать лишь с очень большой натяжкой.

I freely admit that Worriers was one of those bands I should have known much more about prior to attending the Fest last year. Missing out on their appearance in Gainesville is quickly becoming my biggest regret. Luckily, it looks like I’ll be able to rectify that in short order as they are embarking on a tour with Brian Fallon in support of this, their latest album, You or Someone You Know.

In 1988, at the pinnacle of the “Hollywood Hair Metal” craze, WILDSIDE, then called YOUNG GUNNS, was formed by guitarist Benny Rhynedance and singer Drew Hannah. Both were 1986 hair metal transplants from the pre-grunge Seattle music scene, which in 1986, did not exist yet.
By 1988 in Los Angeles, after slugging it out for two years in the LA club scene as glam rockers Rogue and enduring the Hollywood “Pay to Play” club promoter rip-off, Benny and Drew disbanded their original Seattle band. They then formed THE BOYZ, which became YOUNG GUNNS, and recruited second guitarist Brent Woods from the Sunset Strip band ALRISHA, and bassist Marc Simon from local heroes ST. VALENTINE. The lineup was soon completed with the addition of drummer Johnny Dean, but he soon left the band.
The guys searched for a permanent drummer and dominated the Sunset Strip and the Whisky-A-Go-Go on the weekly Monday night “No Bozo Jam” shows. After a year and a half of “false starts and flakes,” they found ex-NRG and KANE ROBERTS drummer Jimmy D. from San Bernardino, CA to finally complete the classic lineup.
This is when the hard work truly began. With a solid lineup, the band began an all-out assault on Hollywood. Sold out shows followed at the Roxy, Whisky, Troubadour, Gazzarri’s, and X-Poseur 54. Front page covers on all of the LA rock press magazines arose, and record labels began to take notice.
Diligently writing and rehearsing in their shared Hollywood gigs, the boys played endlessly throughout 1988-1989. When they weren’t ripping through impassioned sets, they were putting up flyers on every telephone pole in town. Their self-determination turned self-promotion into an art form and soon the band’s name was on everyone’s lips.
However, the band needed to eventually change their name. Originally known as YOUNG GUNNS between ’88 to ‘90, the producers of a western film using a similar title (released incidentally after the band was already well on its way) from Lionsgate Studios and Artisan Entertainment issued a series of cease and desist warnings and wanted $350,000 for the rights to the name.
After another late night Sunset Strip gig, while the guys were afterwards at the Rainbow bar, the name WILDSIDE was thrown around and seemed to fit their lifestyle perfectly, while being inspired by the Lou Reed song of the same name.
With their new name, a new phase of the band history was about to begin. But, that’s another story…

Normally, the first few lines of an album review are fertile soil for some rock-and-roll philosophy, or irony, or witticisms, or some old-fashioned rock history. However, what does one say about a Helsingborg-based Swedish metal band, with a mild-mannered Clark Kent alter ego in the form of a 70s/80s glam funk AOR band themed around airline travel? Not much. It has a way of speaking for itself.
In the way of light history, metal band Soilwork gives us fairly legendary Björn “Speed” Strid on vocals, as well as David Andersson on guitars. From 2007 to 2012, the two began scheming a musical way to tell the tales of rock-and-roll excess and absurdity of the 70s and 80s, and once Arch Enemy’s Sharlee D’Angelo insisted upon not being left out of the absurd shenanigans, thus was The Night Flight Orchestra born. In the years since, the band released four albums, exploring tales of travel, romance, heartbreak, space exploration, and even the deliciously retro “Turn to Miami” found on their fourth album, “Sometimes the World Ain’t Enough,” complete with its obviously quasi Miami Vice underpinnings.

This is the fourth release in the last two years or so from The Apaches, an album that sees them maintain an “album a year” pace - since their 2016 debut. This is without a doubt their best yet - if you take surf, spaghetti western and Euro instrumentals, this would have elements of all three, but veer closer towards the spaghetti/Euro sounds. The songs are well-written, melodic and catchy, the members are all masters of their instruments, and the production is spot on. Undoubtedly one of the top releases of 2020!

Italy has always been a prime center for music, from the days of classical all the up to the modern day. SECRET ALLIANCE confirms my opinion with their outer cosmic Progressive Hard Rock album “Solar Warden”. SECRET ALLIANCE was founded by guitarist Gianluca Galli (SILVER HORSES & MANTRA) initially as his solo project, but found he was wanting to create music with some extra complexity involved. He recruited the incredible Ricardo Confessori (ex-ANGRA) and fantastic hard rock bassist Tony Franklin to round out the constant members in every song. There are many guest musicians on this futuristic/sci-fi inspired album including Frank Gambale (CHICK COREA BAND) and Alex Masi. These great musicians create a futuristic world in sound.

Gregg Olson and Scarlet Hollow have returned with what may well be the band’s best work to date.

Russell Glyn Ballard - is an English singer, songwriter and musician.
Originally coming to prominence as the lead singer and guitarist for the band Argent, Ballard became known by the late 1970s as a songwriter and producer. His compositions "New York Groove", "You Can Do Magic", "Since You Been Gone", "Liar", "Winning", "I Know There's Something Going On", "So You Win Again" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" were hits for other artists during the 1970s and 1980s. He also scored several minor hits under his own name in the early and mid-1980s.

It’s been thirteen years since Rose Tattoo last released a studio album, so it seems fitting that with such a star-studded line-up now performing alongside Angry Anderson, this incarnation of the band should get something down in the recording studio that manages to capture the magic that has been pleasuring audiences, not just here in Australia but also in Europe & the UK over the last couple of years. It’s hard to believe that Rose Tattoo’s 1978 self-titled debut album, which was also titled ‘Rock n Roll Outlaw’ in some countries, would leave the imprint it has and so the band managed to spend some of 2019 locked away in a Sydney studio to re-record that debut album and the results are quite stunning. Added to the track listing of firm favourites are three previously unreleased songs that were only ever demoed back in the day, which give fans something new to hear.
