Ultimate Toni Braxton, released in 2003, is the first greatest hits collection by R&B singer Toni Braxton. It features many of her greatest hits, and includes all the singles from her debut Toni Braxton and all but one of the singles from her second album Secrets. Her albums The Heat and More Than a Woman are fairly underrepresented, as only two and one songs are included from each album, respectively. Toni Braxton received mixed to positive reviews from music critics. Ron Wynn from AllMusic said that the album showcased Braxton as "an elegant and earthy songstress, nicely balancing those seemingly divergent sentiments [...] Braxton's husky, enticing voice sounds hypnotic, dismayed, and disillusioned [...] but she's never out of control, indignant, or so anguished and hurt that she fails to retain her dignity." Los Angeles Times critic Connie Johnson wrote: "Sounding like an unlikely hybrid of Phyllis Hyman, Anita Baker and Tracy Chapman, Braxton's sultry, earthy delivery makes her a standout in today's R&B arena." Similarly, People found that "when Braxton slides into her lower register she echoes Anita Baker, and when she skips around the higher notes there's also a hint of Whitney Houston. Secrets received generally positive reviews from music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from AllMusic wrote that Braxton's "vocal talent is what unites Secrets and makes it into a first-rate contemporary R&B collection. Braxton is a singer who can cross over into the smooth confines of adult contemporary radio without losing or betraying the soul that lies at the foundation of her music, and her talent burns at its brightest on Secrets." Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly praised the "core Braxton/Babyface collaborations" on the album as "diverse, witty, and exquisitely modulated", noting Braxton's "technical range" and "ability to deliver Secrets' sermons of sensuality—little gospels of good and bad loving—with unusual eloquence." Robert Christgau, writing in The Village Voice, stated, "The apprentice diva of the debut was modest, composed, virtually anonymous. I'll take the right It Girl anytime—especially one who insists on getting her props." "Rain upon the Impure" – cамое хтоническое и соответственно самое лучшее творение The Ruins Of Beverast по той простой причине, что именно эта эстетика предельной грязи, глухости, сырости, удушливой атмосферы более всего подходит творчеству фон Майленвальда. Тут все сделано в лучшем виде: длиннющие трэки, мрачные торжественные вступления, ожесточенные скоростные преследования. Гитары являются нам в виде грозной жужжащей массы, ударные иногда тоже сливаются в могущее месиво бластбита, но все работает на творческую вселенную немца, создает временной и пространственный колорит.

Тучи сгущаются... Именно так можно охарактеризовать данную работу норвежского gothic-metal коллектива, принимая во внимание их предыдущие работы. Можно сказать, что группа нашла-таки свой собственный саунд, позволяющий выделить ее из массы коллективов играющих в том же направлении (Tristania, Sirenia). Песни, сочетая в себе различное настроение, стали тяжелее и отнюдь не потеряли мелодичность, а скорее наоборот стали более запоминающимися ("Denial and Pride", например). Интересно выглядит кавер-версия песни Faith No More "«Caffeine" получившее второе дыхание в исполнении норвежцев.

"When We Are Done Your Flesh Will Be Ours" на голову выше двух предыдущих альбомов и это заметно уже на первых секундах прослушивания. Звук стал чище, мелодии еще разнообразней, появились industrial-вставки. Тяжелые гитарные партии в исполнении великого и ужасного Lord K. Philipson тоже никуда не исчезли, а наоборот преобразились, и теперь звучат на все 100! Про вокал я вообще бы молчал, но это все-таки рецензия, а не игра в молчанку. Итак, агрессивность и жестокость гроулинга заставляет буквально поверить в то, что поет любое другое существо, но НЕ человек.

Сказалась, но в лучшую сторону. Намного лучшую, на мой взгляд! Альбом оказался очень качественной работой. Музыка представляет собой весьма интересный сплав агрессивного мужского вокала Ронни и сильного, чувственного голоса Катрин. Несмотря, на то, что все мы, наверное, привыкли к связке «красавица и чудовище» в готике, здесь этот прием слушается как-то по-своему интересно, не избито. Голос у вокалистки заслуживает отдельной похвалы: он мощный, воодушевляющий, в то же время такой чувственный, что во время прослушивания припевов создается ощущение некоего полета. А в песне «Storm at Will» она добивается потрясающей нежности.

"You're Makin' Me High" is the lead single from American singer Toni Braxton's second studio album, Secrets (1996). The mid-tempo song represents a joint collaboration between the Grammy Award-winning producer Babyface and Bryce Wilson. The beat of the song was originally for singer-songwriter Brandy, with Dallas Austin pegged to write a lyric to override; however, Braxton had Babyface write lyrics for the song. It was ultimately issued in the United States as a double A-side with "Let It Flow", the airplay hit from the 1995 film Waiting to Exhale.
